College Scholarship Information

The Escondido Chamber of Commerce has collaborated with Reviews.com, a website dedicated to conducting data driven and unbiased research about topics that can help make an impact in people’s lives. Reviews.com just finished their most recent study on all the available scholarships platforms.

There is no shortage of information about the numerous scholarships available to students. Reviews.com found a common pain point among students was finding tools to sort through all the available scholarships to find those that would be most applicable to their situation. So they spent over 200 hours researching 17 of the most popular scholarship search platforms that are currently available. They analyzed and audited them using five core metrics to identify key functionality, research tools, and useful student resources.

You can see the entire guide along with some of its features here:

MAP Program

MAP Your Future

Program Overview

During February 2006, in an effort to heighten the awareness as to the importance of attending school for both students and parents, the Escondido Union High School District embarked on a major campaign:

MAP Your Future, Reach Your Destination

MAP is a simple acronym to help keep school success as a goal for all students. It emphasizes these important messages:

M: Maintain a rigorous course of study (completing A through G UC/CSU admission criteria with a 3.0 GPA)

A: Attend school daily (maintaining a minimum of 98% attendance rate over 4 years)

P: Participate in school and/or community activities (minimum total of 100 hours)

Beginning with the class of 2011, students who complete all four years of high school on an Escondido Union High School District campus, and achieve certain benchmarks (including those listed above), will be eligible for guaranteed college admission to California State University San Marcos. They will also be eligible to receive tuition assistance.

Additional Information can be found at Escondido Union High School Distict.

Palomar GEAR UP Program

Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs

Dear Chamber Member,

My name is Calvin One Deer Gavin, Director of Grant Funded Student Program at Palomar College. On behalf of the GEAR UP Partnership Program welcome to our page. I have had the honor and privilege of over seeing this program since it’s conception in 1999. Then in 2000, Cecilia Rocha joined our team and since then we have received two other grants. We are pleased to announce that we received our third GEAR UP Grant 2011-2018 for San Marcos Unified and Escondido Union School Districts. We are 1 of 46 grants funded in the country! As a civic or business leader your participation over the next seven years is key to student career success. Please review our Fact Sheet to learn more.

The Palomar College GEAR UP Partnership Program – Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs is a U. S. Department of Education grant program. GEAR UP allocates resources to provide early college awareness, improve academic performance, increase high school graduation rates, and improve the transition/preparation from middle school to high school and from high school to college, particularly at-risk, low-income, and first-generation college students.

Since 1999, our partnership has been an excellent opportunity to create a “college-going culture” in local middle/high schools: San Marcos, Vista and now Escondido. Our new grant school partners in Escondido are Del Dios, Hidden Valley & Mission Middle school along with Orange Glen and San Pasqual High Schools. We have 61 partners and look forward to collaborating with your business.

Now more than ever, we are seeking scholarship support for our graduation class of 2012-2018. These students are likely to attend Palomar College and are the first in their family to get a college degree. GEAR UP would like to send them off with a small scholarship gift with your help. Please consider giving a monetary donation, and to show our appreciation your business will receive a logo link on our appreciation Scholarship Page. Moreover, your in-kind services/contributions allow the GEAR UP program to receive funding, which are required “matches”.
