Arlene Cawthorne, chairwoman of the Ambassadors.  A resident of Inland North County for over 50 years she has a long history of working both for non-profit organizations and for-profit businesses.  She was the crisis manager for a large non-profit in Escondido, and worked in the behavioral health programs at Palomar Health.  For over 10 years she owned an auto parts business called Mustang Classics in the Escondido Auto Park and was the Executive Director of the Ed Brown Senior Center.  This rather eclectic work history trained her well for her current position with Assisting Hands Home Care as a case manager with a specialty in dementia care for caregivers.   A BA in psychology and a master’s degree in counseling gave her the education to compliment her experience.  To narrow down her knowledge as a case manager she obtained certifications as a Senior Advisor, Aging Life Care Advanced Professional, and as a trainer in a nationally known program called Positive Approach to Care that helps caregivers working with someone with dementia.  She has given presentations on various mental health issues and normal versus not normal aging throughout San Diego County for universities, law enforcement agencies, schools and service groups to name of few.

Among her many volunteer positions she was the first president of the Ranch Bernardo Community Council, a board member of the Interfaith Community Services and president of the Inland North County National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI).  Currently her volunteer time is spent at the American Cancer Society Discovery Store, Soroptimists and the Escondido Campus of the San Diego Humane Society.
